This is the true story of drinking ayahuasca, the Vine of the Dead, in Peru. In 1981 an Englishman and an Australian arrived in Iquitos, Peru, connected with Terence and Dennis McKenna as well as the writer Nicole Maxwell, and embarked on a seven months adventure drinking the powerful hallucinogen with various ayahuasqueros, including Don Melo and Don Solon. Later the scene shifts to Lamas. This book meticulously records their experiences, both good and bad, and the text is illustrated throughout with their vision paintings. The book is a testimony to some of the pitfalls as well as the highs of the experience, and is a valuable insight into the shamanic experience.
