The Cucumber Thief

The true story of the relationship between the author, a young girl growing up in China during the cultural revolution in China and her school mates; some of which were a gang of boys who attacked smart and attractive girls and who also stole cucumbers from the author's grandmother. The story takes some unexpected turns when the grandmother deals gracefully with a trouble making gang of theives and finds her own way to handle them with tact that brings about life changing personal reforms.
