The ‘Crying Child' Monument Has No More Room

This book curates and chronicles numerous challenges facing Jamaican children. They live in a society teeming with a plethora of negative influences that jeopardize their safety and healthy development. These negative influences have resulted in the loss of too many innocent young lives and continue to put survivors at risk. The loss of Jamaica’s children to violent and heinous crimes threatens the stability and development prospects of the nation. It is written by a concerned Jamaican academic to educate, shock, and stir his country’s leaders and fellow Jamaicans into committing to do right by the nation’s children. The loss of every Jamaican child to violence and crime is a harrowing reminder that they are dying to be safe in their homeland. Jamaica cannot reasonably dream of a peaceful and prosperous future when so many bantling Jamaicans are exposed to numerous adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). The author entreats Jamaicans to embrace a national ambition of acting collectively to make the phrase ‘our children are our future’ a real pledge rather than an empty cliché.
