Residents of the small town of Florin, Virginia, are appalled when Eduardo and Juana Alvarez, beloved members of the community and the only undocumented immigrants in multiple adjoining counties, are detained at Sarah’s Diner. When the arresting agents demand to know the whereabouts of their minor children, the town bands together to protect them.

The Chief, Florin’s ex Chief of Police and Eduardo’s best friend, is determined to keep the children close to Florin and the people who love them. He chooses the only feasible hiding place in the area: with the elderly and reclusive Witch in the Woods.

The Chief’s involvement with protecting the Alvarez children puts him in touch with a Latino Jesuit priest named Father John, whose parishioners are suffering greatly from the sudden rash of detainments and deportations. Together, the Chief and Father John devise a plan to hide the children of detained parents, while exposing the cruelty of the immigrant arrests.

This story highlights the plights of immigrant children from five families affected by detainments and deportations, and the brilliance and courage of the everyday people trying to help them.
