Why not just make the cake? That's a question countless people across the country started asking in 2012, when Jack Phillips told two men who walked into his Masterpiece Cakeshop that he couldn't create a custom cake for their same-sex wedding. And the question only grew more urgent as Phillips had to defend himself first before the Colorado Civil Rights Commission and then numerous courts - losing at every step of the way until the US Supreme Court ruled in his favor in June 2018.

Why not just make the cake? Submitting would have been less frightening than facing relentless harassment and death threats. It would have been less costly than losing a major portion of his business when the state demanded that he design cakes for same-sex weddings or none at all. And it would have been easier than a decade of fighting for his rights - and his livelihood - in court, a fight he has been forced to continue even after his victory at the Supreme Court.

But for Jack Phillips, there are deeper principles at stake - principles too precious to abandon for the sake of convenience and safety. These principles should be of concern to every American, including Jack's adversaries. If the freedoms Jack has sought to protect are lost, they may never be regained.

Received A LOT More Than I Expected 🙏

The narrator was a great choice for this book. I didn't know much about Jack Phillips before listening to this book on Audible. In fact I didn't even know his name or the name of his business. The story that I heard came from my "Non-Binary/ Gender Neutral/ Female Assigned At Birth Oldest Child"--(Right?? So much easier than saying Daughter).🤦🏼‍♂️ I read a similar review about Jack's book and I suspect Pea Jay Kay, the author of that bad review did not read the book. To quote their review; "Deeply held religious beliefs should NEVER be a basis for determining who we serve." That reviewer much like my child are wrong when it comes to Jack and his story. It was never about WHO asked for the cake, it was always about the MESSAGE they wanted Jack to create with his Artistry. Jack could not and would not sign his name to that work of art.

On to the title of my review... More than I expected... I have never felt a connection with God or Jesus. To be honest I never really tried to feel one either. This book helped me realize that with him is better than without him. I am going to be mindful and try to listen to what he needs me to hear. Thank you Jack Phillips I can only pray that some day I'll have faith as strong as yours.

A Great reminder of God's Sovereignty and Grace. A must read to anyone who seeks after God's own heart.

well balanced and logically presented

if you're looking for hysteria, you won't find it here. this is a well articulated chronology of events for this individual, and the experiences he and his people dealt with. we need to all be thankful that Jack was willing to stand up against the bullying of the government

Great explanation and revealing

What I liked about this book is it included other businesses that were similarly targeted because the artist did not comply with what was being asked. The other businesses were not prosecuted. it was interesting to compare the outcome. The narrator was very easy to listen to.

What a beautiful testimony of the goodness and faithfulness of God!! This book is well written and I love that the author uses it as an instrument to present the wonderful message of the Gospel of Jesus. To God be the Glory

Excellent storytelling

I really enjoyed learning Jack's story, and becoming more familiar with the intricacies of his court case. He seems like a decent fellow. The narration was solid, and they kept the narrative nice and tight. Well done!
