Katie Lapp's identity has been shattered ever since she was painfully torn from her close-knit community in the frightening ordeal called the shunning. Katie, now Katherine Mayfield, sets out to find the ailing birth mother she has never known.

Her journey takes her to places where electric lights and telephones set Katherine's mind whirling with "fancy" things and where she stumbles into a world of betrayal, where the plain garb of the Amish is misused to disguise an evil conspiracy. Alone in a world of strangers, she longs only for the gentle embrace of the woman she hopes to call Mother.

The Confession is the second book in a trilogy that recreates the simple life of the Amish. Its themes of hope and reconciliation show us that even when we think we are far away, God's love is always present.

Living 45 minutes from Lancaster, PA I’ve had the pleasure of riding through the beautiful farmlands of the Amish, toured one of their homes, listened to the lovely clippity clop of horses hooves as they pulled their bodies bodies ooo
buggies and had a hot air balloon ride over the lush fields and gardens; also, of course ate their delicious shoo fly pie.
Beverly Lewis takes the reader, or listener into the lives and hearts of her characters. I was unpleasantly surprised to hear the Amish don’t acknowledge the salvation message that because of Jesus death and resurrection we can make heaven our eternal home.
The story line was intriguing and the narrator excellent. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series.

Katie Lapp's true identity has been revealed and she is shattered from the way she had been raised in Hickory Hollow. She had been living in the ordeal called the Shunning from the last book. She is now Katherine Mayfield set out to find her ailing birth mother she has never known. She is alone in the World of strangers,
Now where there is electricity, telephones and no restrictions of dress, it is such a different life for sure.

Marguerite Gavin is also the same Narrator. Since it has been a year or two, I am completely comfortable listening to this so well written by Beverly Lewis.

I saw the first in this trilogy as a TV movie. I thought it was pretty good and decided to see what it was like to pick up a story in the second book after starting with the movie. I wasn't disappointed even though the movie wasn't that fresh in my mind. The author always seems to spin a good story and bring the Amish to life. Was this the greatest book ever written, no, but it was entertaining and I'm sure I'll listen to the thired story.
