Arthur Z. Miller sees the world in amber data-streams.

Armed with a wearable sensor suite known as the Manifold and a reputation for dismantling supernatural frauds, Miller arrives at the remote Vestige Hotel to expose a lucrative con run by a charismatic operator named Orville. To Miller, the hauntings are nothing but engineering: hidden solenoids, chemical chills, ultrasonic dread, and carefully staged terror designed to empty bank accounts.
He expects tricks.

When his room begins to freeze from the inside out, his instruments detect palm prints on fourth-story windows, and voices speak from empty pipes, Miller does what he has always done: he explains the impossible as machinery. As error. As signal distortion.
But when his technology collapses into safe mode and even his own heartbeat must be digitally muted to survive, the boundary between the con, the haunting, and the sting operation meant to end it all begins to dissolve.
