He shares examples of racism he’s seen or experienced in spiritual contexts, the worst being white slaveholders who used the Bible to justify slavery. As a former slave himself, Douglass had personal experience with southern preachers telling slaves that God wanted them to obey their masters. To little has changed...
This one made me disappointed in people because usually, old stories like this seem like outrages things that no one(decent) would stand for today but not this one. The reasons for the snobbery may not be color/race specific as often anymore but the holier than though ideology that is the ugly backbone of this one is still rampant in most organized religions. But it's still a good read as its good to check ourselves on how far we haven't come sometimes too.
