Nine-year-old Jaxon had spent his entire life in foster care. It might not have been so bad if he’d only had to endure one or two placements, but Jaxon wasn’t that fortunate. Spending more than a year in any one placement had been a rare occurrence.

The carousel of placements left Jaxon battling a sense of isolation and abandonment. To make matters worse, he began to sense a vague wrongness in the foster care agency that controlled his life. The constant doctor visits and frequent rounds of vaccinations were far outside the norm. As the years passed, he also became aware of several oddities within himself. The combination of his unusual life circumstances and his own eccentricities gradually gave rise to an indefinable feeling of peril that became impossible to ignore.

The occurrence of an unspeakable tragedy gave Jaxon an opportunity to escape a situation that was rapidly becoming untenable. As he fled north, his attempt to evade capture soon became a desperate bid for survival. The resulting odyssey transformed him both physically and mentally.

Over time, he learned that he had been the subject of research involving genetic enhancement. He came to realize that the experiment was the reason for both his atypical upbringing and his own idiosyncrasies. The peculiarities he had long been aware of grew and transformed in response to the pressure exerted by his struggle to survive.

While old abilities strengthened, new powers appeared. His journey toward safety transmuted into a search for answers to the many questions that haunted his existence. Who was behind the research? Were there other subjects? What was the goal? And most importantly, who was he and what would he ultimately become?
