Kristyl Dawn Tift
Her dream came true and ruined everything. Emily Benoit left her small ranching community in Idaho to become the art director for a large New York City department store. In the process she broke her heart, as well as Devlin Camp's, the love of her life. Emily's back for Christmas and there are no tidings of comfort and joy from Devlin because he can't begin to forgive her. Besides, he's gotten married. Emily knows too well what she gave up but getting it back is impossible.

The story? GAH! I so loved it, but it was so short. I know, I know, it's a novella - I knew what I was getting into, but I enjoyed this so much, that I wanted more and really wanted more of these characters. In fact, with about 35 minutes left, I went-a-stalking Barbara Morgenroth on goodreads to try to find out if this was hopefully a novella in the middle of a series so I could get the rest of the books. Alas, much to my disappointment, it appears to be a stand alone.
So good! It's lovely and sweet and I just want more! (hint, hint Barbara Morgenroth)

What more can you ask for than Christmas in August? This was a short, sweet romance, including Emily and Devlin. Emily, a girl who was looking to get away from the small town and make something of herself comes to realize that her cowboy is all she needs. Devlin is the perfect cowboy Christmas present! You get caught up in their banter, trying to figure out where they still stand and where they will be going.
The narration of this book by Kristyl Dawn Tift was wonderful. She has a nice smooth voice that gets you listening and keeps you there.
I would have loved this book to be a little longer, whether delving into their past some more or adding on some future scenes would have been great. The book was enjoyable.

Barbara Morgenroth writes about Devlin and Emily, a young couple who's dreams take them in separate directions. Devlin is happy in the expectation of staying in the hometown ranching community. Emily has big dreams that take her to a powerful career in NYC. As far as Emily knows, Devlin is happily married. She has the career she dreamed of and should be thrilled with her life but something is missing (Devlin.)
One Christmas, Emily is called to go home. The author treats us with vivid descriptions of the home, town and people. She is miserable.... (Emily, not the author!)
I cannot say much more without spoiling. It was a short book and I wish the climax had peeked sooner. There was a little too much grumbling by Emily and the end was....oops, I'm not spoiling.
Another reviewer hoped that this was a prequel to a series. If so, that would change my whole opinion about this book. As is, it was a bit boring, with time wasted on details...it felt like backstory. So maybe...
The narration was adequate and matched the story.
None of this is meant to be harsh or critical. Other reviewers give it 5*'s for me it felt average. *I was given a copy in exchange for my review.
