Resumen del Editor

From the "Stephen King of Manitoba" comes another macabre tale. This one will keep you listening past your bedtime, and you won't want to turn the lights off when you're done! At the Midnight Hour beware of what lurks in the shadows.

Clear Vista, California, is a picturesque town overlooking a tranquil bay on the Pacific. Quiet. Friendly. It’s a great place for children to grow up.

That is, if they grow up.

But an unusual number of children in Clear Vista don’t live long enough to grow up. A car accident. A hit-and-run. A tumble down the basement stairs. A suicide. So many tragedies fill the plots in the local cemetery Resurrection Gardens. The worst is the disappearance of eight-year-old Loewen twins Heidi and Holly. When their bodies are found in the cemetery’s tool shed, the horrified townspeople are desperate to find the predator that has come into their midst.

Under mounting pressure, Police Chief Braden Powell searches for the culprit, but he soon finds himself investigating a string of additional deaths. Adults this time. All parents of lost children. They’re definitely not murders, but they’re definitely not natural, either. Is the town of Clear Vista just unlucky, or is something far more sinister moving over the horizon?

Great horror/occult

This was my first time listening to a book by Stone Wallace and my first time listening to a horror audiobook. Michael Johnson as the narrator gave a very strong/solid performance. He was able to differentiate the kids voices from the adults. His performance of Powell was very solid. Overall, he did a great job and his voice sets an appropriate tone for the story line. The story line kept me wondering what was actually happening in Clear Vista and with the Resurrection Gardens cemetery. I was definitely surprised by the ending, and I liked how it ended. I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested in horror/ occult audiobooks.

Pray you don't get to visit this town

I wasn’t overly excited about this story. It felt like it was a mish mash of people’s lives glued together by the death of children. The character development was great, but I felt like half of the story wasn't needed in order to get to the ending. Easily could have been a novella. The ending itself was not at all expected and was by far the best part of the story. The last fifteen minutes of the book out shined every other part, although to me it wasn't enough to remedy it as a whole. I kinda wished there had been more to it.

The story itself is unique and quite neat, just not executed as well as I believe it could have been. It really was slow to start and kept jumping around. I can see why this author is compared to Stephen King. This story definitely had his feel to it. I wouldn't compare this book to Pet Cemetery either so don't expect that, the two stories are quite different. If you are a fan of Stephen King, this book is probably perfect for you.

I like how the narrator told the story. It had a classic ghost story feel, almost like this was told how a campfire story would be. Michael Johnson did a fantastic job with his accents, voices for the characters, and sound effects like creaking doors. He really brought the story to life.

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Small Town Death

You'd think that a bunch of kids dying on the regular would throw up some red flags, yes? I'd think so. In Clear Vista, it's not necessarily that big of a deal. Until parents start dying too. As people are dropping like flies, Police Chief Braden Powell desperately searches for the predator on the loose. This is a bit of a meandering story, it takes its time to get to where it's going. Michael Johnson does an excellent job of voicing the characters, particularly the children.

pretty good

I do wish the actual scare factor of this book had been a bit more but all in all it was still pretty good and Michael Johnson has done a great job narrating.
