Please note – A version of this novel was previously published as a stand alone novel in 2016, and as part of an omnibus edition – The Lost Star Stories Volume Two, The Lost Star’s Sea. If you have read that book – thank you – you have already read this story.
The fate of Captain Wil Litang is revealed.
In The Castaways of the Lost Star, Wil Litang finds himself shipwrecked with Naylea Cin, the St Bleyth assassin, who has vowed to kill him as well as Tallith Min, her original target. He, however, has his uses – to repair a battered ship’s boat – so that Cin can catch up with Min to kill her. But well, not only does she owes him for saving her life, there a mutual attraction as well. But is that enough? Trapped on a tiny tumbleweed of an island, they begin to discover the life of the Pela which include slavers and pirates, and some mysterious winged humanoid aliens.
The Lost Star Stories now morph into a classical planetary romance with its many great motifs – wonder-full and strange places and people mixed with mysterious dangers, woven into a grand adventure. It combines these wonderful adventures with richly drawn characters and contemporary sensibilities to create a modern, character-focused planetary romance.
Nestled deep in the darkest nebula of the Nine Star Nebula, the legendary Tenth Star, also known as the Lost Star, is a celestial object like no other. Perhaps it is a vast hollow planet, its surface fractured enough to allow entry through it. Within the shell are layers of gas and debris, like the layers of an onion, the whole lit by some strange nuclear or chemical reaction in its core. One of the outer layers supports a breathable atmosphere with fragments of the shell slowly circulating within it in the currents of this vast layer. These lush floating islands are home to many human and near human people, as well as countless alien fauna, the most impressive, being the many feathered dragons. At some point, humans from the Nine Star Nebula discovered this strange paradise, and the treasures it holds, and now they are determined to keep it secret, as Wil Litang and his shipmates have discovered. But the humans are not the only intelligent life in this Archipelago, or the “Pela,” there are the Dragon Kings of legend, and perhaps even the vast distances will not keep them from discovering these human invaders.
