Chicago. 1979. Charlie Johns, former cop and current P.I., is broke. He owes money to the mob. When a 92-year-old woman demands that Charlie find her twin sister, money no object, it seems like a reprieve. The missing sister has run off with a younger man and left few clues behind. Charlie is on the case but the local mob boss forces him to “talk to” a priest who’s interfering with the mob’s protection racket. Threats of violence don’t dissuade the priest.
