The final tale of The Johnnie & Sander Stories, much of The Case Officer takes place during the waning days of the Reagan years.

An American CIA case officer makes contact with his East German counterpart, Franz Glastetter and launches a bid to bring down the Iron Curtain. That red-letter day reverberates some four decades later when a young, gay, CIA operative, Johnnie Allen, stumbles upon an unrealized Kremlin plot set to shake all of Europe: Putin's Russia plans to invade Ukraine.

With the help of his boss, Marge; his man, Sander; and Sander's brother, Jannik, it becomes a race against time to foil the plans of Johnnie's arch nemesis, Kolya, the Russian foe who is determined to upset the balance of power at any cost.
