Reseñas editoriales

In The Butler Did It, narrated with amusing good cheer by Luci Christian Bell, recent divorcee Blaire Thomlin just won the "Butler for a Fortnight" contest, its prize being exactly what it sounds like. Sure enough, who shows up at Blaire’s door the very next day to cater to her every housecleaning whim and – perhaps - other womanly desires? Just the sexiest Australian manservant Thomlin has ever seen and one "first-class hunk". Things get more neat and orderly in the Thomlin household and a lot more steamy from there.

Resumen del Editor

Ruben Crosscroft is not your typical butler, a proper old gent in black tails. The awesome Aussie arrives sporting athletic shorts and a T-shirt. Blue-eyed, virile, tanned - he is no sexless wooden servant.... Which comes as a shock to divorcee Blaire Thomlin, who'd won Ruben's services in a contest for two whole weekends.

Having a man around the house again made Blaire nervous, but Ruben cooks, cleans, and caters to Blaire's ever desire...including a few not in his job description. He turns Blaire's life around and makes her start to believe in love once more. Until ugly rumors surface about his past.... With so much to sort out, suddenly two weeks doesn’t seem like so long to Blaire after all.

Cute story, narration is a bit of a turn off

The story part of this is cute enough, but the premise is unrealistic. It would have been better if it were longer so that characters and story line could be more developed, but maybe the author is not that experienced.

I probably would have liked the story more if the narrator had any skills at all with male voices and accents. The lead male character speaks with a higher voice than the principle female. Worst of all, the character is supposed to be Australian, yet the narrator gives him an unsuccessful and prissy English accent. Every time there was some reference to Ruben's 'manly' characteristics -- he is described as awesomely virile and athletic -- I either laughed or cringed! It rather ruined the book for me.

I have Audible Escape, so I can listen and then trade it back in for another book, but if I had used a credit or bought the individual title, I would have returned it and complained!

The book was recorded in 2012, so I hope Luci Christian Bell has honed her narrating skills by now with regard to voice timbre and accents. If not, she is totally inappropriate for this sort of book.
