Sydney drummed her fingers against her coffee cup, staring at the job application on her screen. The cursor blinked, waiting. She had the experience. The internships. The polished resume. So why did it feel like she was just another name in a sea of applicants?
Like most people, Sydney had been playing by the rules—following the expected path, hoping the right opportunity would find her. But when an unexpected mentor hands her a challenge, she starts to realize something:
The most successful people don’t wait for opportunities. They create them.
The Business of You is not just a career book—it’s a playbook for taking ownership of your future. Through Sydney’s journey, Marnie Stockman and Nick Coniglio introduce a new way of thinking about personal success, leadership, and career growth.
• Tell your story in a way that makes people pay attention.
• Build a network that actually works for you.
• Stop applying for jobs—and start attracting the right opportunities.
• Think like a CEO, because the most important business you’ll ever run is your own.
• Master personal branding and career strategy—so you're always ahead.
If you’ve ever felt stuck—unsure how to stand out, build connections, or create the career you actually want—this book will give you the strategies, mindset, and confidence to take control.
Perfect for college students, professionals, and career changers who want to future-proof their success.
Your business starts now. Are you ready to take the lead?
I was fortunate enough to have a father that taught me most of these principles along with great mentors but if I would have had this book in my hands and all those years to compound,it’s scary to think where I would be today.
This book takes a bunch of principles you find in other books and puts them one place.
The leadership fable style makes the principals fun and accessible. Most people can relate to Sydney in some way.
This will be a gift for all college graduates I know!
Lastly, you’re a leader if you want develop people you you need to read this book I had so many ideas and ways to help develop next generation of talent. I will definitely read this many times over.
Must read for anyone starting out in their career or leadership during

This isn’t a business book; it’s the story of Sydney. In a relatable situation, Sydney is struggling to find a job, struggling to be seen amidst the other individuals in the stacks of resumes piling up around every open job. Navigating LinkedIn, reaching out, seeking mentors, hunting alumni boards, Sydney is frustrated with the search. In a market that feels rough, entry level jobs that need years of experience, and the same old stale advice or good luck wishes, Sydney is so many of us. Yet authors Nick Coniglio and Marnie Stockman use Sydney to teach readers important lessons. As we navigate Sydney’s own journey, we learn a lot about ourselves and what it means to stand out.
“The Business of You” flips our thinking. By running our life like a business, we take control of our path and own our success in a new way. Instead of thinking of investments as money saved in accounts, Coniglio and Stockman suggest we flip our perspective to think of investments in the currency of time. Instead of being thrown off course when plans go awry, think of the new strategic vision, the operational changes, or the ways you can still achieve with a different point of view. While Sydney is navigating the fictional business of Blue, readers are gaining new perspectives, insights, and ways of embracing their own path.
Coniglio and Stockman use their technological expertise and pair it with an executive level educational background to bring readers a new, fresh perspective. Taking the very best of leadership, career, and business books, “The Business of You” brings a new gold standard to the marketplace. Shelve your old leadership, career, and graduate go-to reads and make this your next pick! You’ll forget you’re even reading as you fall into Sydney’s extremely relatable journey.
