Laura Paton's soft voice animates this strange German tale by the Brothers Grimm. It stars a hunter who is really a king in disguise and a soldier who has this magic habit of freezing people. These unusual bedfellows find themselves lost together in the forest. Talented children's performer Paton plays with the silly characters' voices to elicit giggles from her young audience. Meanwhile, Paton's easy pacing lands well on little ears. The story lasts just about eight minutes, which makes it a solid choice for bedtime listening.

This is a story from the Grimms' Fairy Tales 2 collection.
Jacob and Wilhelm's first book of fairy tales, Children's and Household Tales, published in 1812, included 86 folktales and was an instant success. Shortly thereafter, the brothers incorporated 70 more stories in their next volume of Grimms' Fairy Tales. This continued for six more editions! The complete collection contains over 200 stories, and is probably the best-known work of German literature.
