In the near future, the world has been devastated by climate change, covering great portions of the northern continents in ice and snow and the south in almost uninhabitable deserts. There are rumors of a "blessed country" on the West Coast of North America, but nobody looking for this paradise ever returned to verify its existence. Gangs of anarchists, the so-called "rebels," attack, rob and kill anyone in the snow-covered areas of the former US.

The only hope for most people is The Colony, and the Black Rider is its best driver, taking spare parts and other goods to the mines and outposts in the back country. When the Black Rider is ordered to go to the desert and find a mysterious book, unaware that she is not the only one seeking it, a race against the forces of evil begins.
