A classic short story. By turns scary and funny, it’s the greatest “severed hand” story ever written.
After Eustace Borlsover’s blind uncle dies, the nephew receives in the mail the uncle's severed hand as part of his inheritance. It soon emerges that the hand is alive in some sense, intelligent and very mobile. Eustace and his secretary immediately assume the hand is evil, but to be honest it seems more mischievous than malevolent. Until, of course, Eustace nails the hand to a board and sticks it in a safe for several months, whereupon the hand seeks vengeance and a final showdown between men and appendage ensues.
Beast refreshingly avoids clichés while at the same time creating a wonderfully eerie sense of fear. The story was later turned into a horror movie starring Peter Lorre.

A brilliantly written short story that I loved, and feared, as a boy. Back then, this tale gave me night terrors to no end.
So now, I listened to this audio-book late a night, while I was alone... in a large house... with many rooms... and it worked it's creepy skittering nightmarish magic once more!
A tale can be judged on how long it's read or re-told and this one's been done many times in many versions in film & television. There is a great B&W movie with Peter Lorrie. Before there was "The Tingler" there was "The Beast with Five Fingers".
This version is narrated wonderfully by Edward E. French - one of the best possible readers to tell you a scary bedtime story.
Excellent Audio book. ( it's really a short story )
An amazing value as I bought it for a mere dollar and change!
When I was a wee lad this scared da heck outa me!
