Resumen del Editor

Peace turns to chaos in the Mountain Realm when a great evil threatens to destroy the kingdom of Danamor. With their king gone, having mysteriously vanished, the dwarves of Danamor struggle to maintain their peaceful way of life. It seems that no one, not even the fallen king’s trusted followers, are able to unite the divided and leaderless kingdom.

One day, an unsuspecting young dwarf named Dwobble finds himself caught in the middle of the political conflict, but not before embarking on a journey that leads him to learn great truths about his family’s past. Along his journey, Dwobble encounters fantastic mythical creatures, forms an unlikely friendship with a living legend, and is ultimately faced with a life-changing decision in the epic final chapter of J. Edwards Holt’s Little Men, Big Treasures trilogy.

Another Entertaining Book from J. Edwards Holt

I loved the evolution of the characters and the creative way they overcome chalkenges and evil.

Enjoyable continuation of the series

The narrator does a splendid job, differentiations could be slightly more pronounced but that’s my only note for Mr. Cockell.

Story: it was a fun twist to watch the progeny of the original “little men” take on what they assumed to be just stories. The story itself is a tad choppy and skips over some character development but overall is an enjoyable read.

Parents: outside of typical dwarf affinities for drinking, I wouldn’t have hesitations about letting 10/12 year olds take on this book. No language/nudity and the violence isn’t graphic or disturbing in any way.

Fun, engaging, and high stakes!

Great battle! The characters in this story were clever and witty. The war scenes were written in a great way. The narrator did a fantastic job also — he made it sound like I was really in the book! 5 stars!

Engaging Finale to the Trilogy

A wonderful final chapter that leaves an opening for another adventure which is sure to come. The narrator is fantastic, as well.

Great ending to the trilogy

This was another hit for sure! I love the way the story wraps up but also leaves room for more possible adventures. The narrator did a fantastic job and really brought the characters to life!

My Favourite of the Trilogy!

I was granted complimentary access to The Battle of Danamor on Audible as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Audiobookworm Promotions. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.

“It may take a while for you to find trouble, but it never takes long for trouble to find you.”

This is by far my favourite book of the trilogy, and I’m sad to see it come to an end. Dwobble, grandson of Bindle, has come to view his grandfather as a charming old man full of fairytales, not to be taken seriously. When he spends his grandfather’s final days in his grandfather’s home, adventure comes calling and Dwobble is soon off to find O’balin and save the Mountain Realm once again. Along the way Dwobble learns that everything his grandfather ever told him was true and that he’s inherited some fantastic abilities as well.

This book in particular really touched me because not only is it once again a wonderful old guard feeling high fantasy but with dwarves as the heroes, it’s also the story of a young man learning to see his grandfather in a new light and get to know him in different ways, even after his death. All three books in this trilogy have a very “human” element but this one is especially sentimental and has a lot to say about honouring and treasuring our elder relatives and family legacies.

Can this book be read first? Probably. Once again this book does a good job of wrapping up the key events of the previous entries before that information is needed, so new readers jumping in here won’t be lost, and this recall is presented in such a way that it isn’t boring or obtrusive for returning readers either. I would encourage readers to read these books in order so that you grow attached to the characters in the intended order, but the stories take place in very different temporal settings and have completely separate and whole plots of their own.

Read these books!

Dwobble, a rhino, & a donkey walk into a battle

Note: Even though this is book 3, it works pretty well as a stand-alone.

I adore the name Dwobble – it’s just fun to say. He’s a third generation treasure hunter and he doesn’t even know it yet. But circumstances will launch him into an unexpected adventure. It’s a great set up and promises plenty of action.

Really I have just one issue with this series overall and this book in particular – lack of diversity. There’s very few female characters in the series and each book gives us less and less diversity of any category. In this book, I can recall just 1 female character, a mother who begs our hero to save her kid. So, yeah, if the dwarves want to continue as a species we need to get the ladies involved.

So Dwobble is the grandson of O’balin (who we met in book 1) and he ends up in the middle of a battle. Kellig (spelling?) is our main protagonist but not the only one who stands in Dwobble’s way of saving as many as he can. O’balin steps in to lend a hand. Most of the violence happens off stage, so this is a good adventure story for kids.

There’s a rhino and a donkey. Yep. I don’t want to spoil too much but I did love the addition of the animals and their attitudes towards Dwobble. I loved how everything with the animals was a negotiation; they were not the kind to blindly obey. 4/5 stars.

The Narration: Philip John Cockell was a good pick for this book. At first, I did wonder why the author kept changing narrators for each book in the series, but so far, it’s worked because each book focuses on a different character from the next generation. Cockell had a variety of voices for all the characters, keeping them distinct. Even though there was only one unnamed woman with just a few lines, I wanted that voice to have a bit more femininity. The pacing was good and there were no tech issues with the recording. 4.5/5 stars.

I received this audiobook as part of my participation in a blog tour with Audiobookworm Promotions. The tour is being sponsored by J. Edwards Holt. The gifting of this audiobook did not affect my opinion of it.
