A ruthless assassin. A wisecracking sorceress. A perilous journey that will reshape the Kingdom.

Driven by money and hatred, Jessara is the greatest of the King’s royal assassins. An autistic elf born in the forests of Anwood, Jessara was trained from childhood to become the perfect weapon against the Compact of the elves. When it comes to a special capture or kill contract, she’s the obvious choice when the King needs a delicate touch.

Her target: a mysterious fugitive human sorceress named Asha Weaver. A specialist in fire magic, Asha narrowly manages to escape execution in the capital city of the Kingdom. Her impulsive and reckless nature prove to be a challenge when a series of misadventures forces the assassin and the sorceress to work together.

Loyalties will be questioned as the reluctant partners battle monsters, hide secrets, overcome betrayal, and face the inconvenient feelings growing between them.

The narration makes this book so immersive. This book fits so much story into few pages. I feel like I got to see an entire lifetime between the two main characters. This book has one of my favorite things, which is when they get together halfway through I get to see them be a couple for longer than just the last few pages. I also loved how morally gray Jessara naturally is. Seriously, this is some of the best, snappiest narration I’ve heard so far.

Excellent narration

I don't think i can properly say how much this book means to me. It gets all my recommendations!

The neurospicy rep is on point. Jessara's autistic traits were lovingly cared for, and Asha made her feel safe in herself.

I was expecting a slow burn, but honestly I'm so glad we got them together rather early on, because watching them care for eachother was just so wholesome.

And the narration was wonderful. All the accents were great and helped distinguish characters without being too over the top. And the comedic timing was fantastic! I was so excited when this got the audio because I'd been wanting to read it, but struggle with written reading. This delivered.

15 out of 5, do yourself a favor and grab this title. Looking forward to book two!

LOVE IT. Jessara is perfection

This had everything I look for in a book: magic, action, funny banter, a queer-normative world, romance/friendships, and found family. There were also plenty of surprises that kept me on the edge of my seat.

The relationship between the two protagonists was believable and evolved naturally over time. Asha was headstrong and hilarious. Jessara was a skilled archer and swordswoman and was also portrayed as a high-masking autistic. That representation was handled exceptionally well and it was so inspiring to see Asha treat her with the compassion and respect she deserved so she could learn to accept her mannerisms and not tolerate people trying to "fix" her any longer.

The villain was portrayed in such a realistic way--fighting for the greater good but turning more and more evil over time.

In regards to the voice acting, I loved it! The different accents and character nuances were handled really well. 10/10!

Can't wait for book 2!
