While I’m waiting and praying, I have been learning a great deal as I re-study all these prayers—the most stunning is probably the tally of answered prayers in Scripture. The “Yeses” just keep piling up! Is that surprising to you, too?
What also surprises me is what we are taught in church about prayer. This may depend upon your denomination and background, but most Christians I have talked to have common ideas about prayer. However, if you dig into the Scripture, you can’t really find examples of these things actually happening. These ideas are taught to young children, and they are absolutely paralyzing. If they are true…honestly, prayer sounds like nothing but a frustrating exercise. Like calling 9-11 only to have the dispatcher want to chat about how the day is going unless you tell her the secret code.
But so far, in this study of prayer, I can’t find Biblical evidence for these ideas.
