In 2020, the United States confronted a heated election and the first pandemic in over a century.
Instead of uniting for a common cause, internal division ravaged American society. Social and traditional media alike traded the national interests of unity and stability for immediate online clicks and profits. Misinformation demonized people and skewed public opinion toward hatred. Politicians preyed on the fears of the people. Lockdowns destroyed millions of livelihoods. Riots burned down several small businesses.
The collectivist religion of intersectionality from the far left rejects our system of meritocracy while hypocritically indulging in the fruits of that system. The calls for secession and violence from the far right undermine the aura of civility requisite for our enduring values of free speech and honest public discourse to function. While the intolerant "woke" left battles with the far right, level-headed centrists from both sides are labeled "traitors".
In The American Papers, Rafael Sondon provides a set of 85 prescriptive essays.
