Marine Corps veteran Mason Beaudrie is just trying to quietly live his life, stuck in the 'friendzone' with the girl of his dreams, his best friend Gia Bennington. He'd not classify his life as perfect but it works for him. He has a good job he doesn't mind, a live-in girlfriend who seems to hate him, inner demons he is quietly battling, and a past he wants to forget. With the help of his family, he is managing to make it through each day.

The Beaudrie Family has lived in Veil Falls for generations. In fact, their ancestors were in the area hundreds of years before the town even existed. They are the oldest family in Cooper County, as well as the largest landholder. Yet the family of ranchers live a modest life steeped in tradition, heritage, and hard-work. Half of Cooper County has no problems with them. The other half, however, does -- including his best friend's family, the Benningtons. The Benningtons are among the founders of the town of Veil Falls and are considered the political and business powers of the county. They believe the Beaudries are shrouded in mysteries, and are practicing black magic based on an encounter over a century before.

The status quo changes when Gia, a mystery author, decides to pen a smut romance novel and needs to start dating in order to do research. Knowing Gia is clueless to his feelings for her, Mason's life begins to further detangle until a simple random meeting changes direction for both Mason and Gia. However, this is Veil Falls and the direction is not met with open arms. When an unexpected series of events take place, Mason's job as a deputy sheriff puts him in the spotlight and garners him unwanted attention. His quiet existence is thrown upside down and the past he was trying to forget collides with his present.

All hell is about to break loose in Mason's life, and only Allegheny and its Ghost Team can give him what he needs to survive what's coming for him.
