If you have ever wondered exactly how we got from the Christian society of the early centuries, united in its faithfulness to apostolic tradition, to the fragmented and secular state of the West today, The Age of Division will answer all your questions and more. In this second of a four-volume cultural history of Christendom, author John Strickland applies insights from the Orthodox Church to trace the decline and disintegration of both East and West after the momentous but often neglected Great Schism. For five centuries, a divided Christendom was led further and further from the culture of paradise that defined its first millennium, resulting in the Protestant Reformation and the secularization that defines our society today.

The author offers an Eastern Orthodox Christian perspective on the history of Christendom in the East and West after the split. He brings some perspectives and personal insights that challange old historical stereotypes and popular theories regarding the history of the West from the "great schism" in 1054 between Greek speaking Constantinople and the Latin Reformers under influence of the newly emerging Western powers that sought to re-establish a new version of Holy Roman Empire in the West separately from the Eastern Roman (Orthodox) Church, and continues through the movements and developments up to the "protestant reformation", "renaissance", "enlightenment", "romanticism", "secularisation", and "utopianism".

Definitely worth listening to multiple times. There's so much information to take in. I converted to Orthodoxy a couple of years ago. And feel like I've barely scratched the surface on my education.

Tons of information
