Michael Cunningham, best-selling author of The Hours takes the stage in this episode of Symphony Space’s Thalia Book Club series, talking specifically about his more recent novel Specimen Days, a work composed essentially of three distinct stories with a plethora of shared details and themes.
Fellow American author Stacey D’Erasmo, who has written such works as Tea and A Seahorse Year, interviews Cunningham following a brief representative reading of his work. She and Cunningham delve into the deep history of his writing life, discussing everything from significant literary influences to what is unsayable in literature. As always, a question-and-answer session with the audience proves especially illuminating, taking this thoughtful conversation in new and interesting directions at the event’s end.
