Reunion can be sweet, but it comes with a cost.
Dana Jordon is a professional counselor in Juneau, Alaska, skilled at helping her clients find freedom from the tethers of painful memories, toxic people, and distorted thought processes. Raised by a father who made it an adventure to grow up on a fishing vessel, she’s attuned to the rugged marine life and magnificence of Southeast Alaska. Behind Dana’s confident demeanor, however, all is not well. The anguish of surrendering her only child at birth was kept secret, until her adult daughter appeared on the scene. Amidst the joy of reunion and dreams of a redefined family, the strands of her history and identity begin to unravel, threatening the fabric of her being. The more she strives to repair her family relationships and draw her daughter close, the greater the divide stretches between her and her father.
At the same time Dana is unraveling her own past, the five women in her therapy group confront their demons: Genie’s intimidating demeanor invites rejection, yet she needs a friend; reticent Susan would become invisible if left alone; Brandi’s rocky marriage threatens the security of her family; Sheryl’s nervous laughter covers the gravity of her distress; and benevolent Ruth needs to lighten up. Listeners will applaud their courage, celebrate their victories, and perhaps embrace some of that grace.
This is the second book in the Tethered Trilogy. If you missed Tethered to Shadows: The Healing Journey of Six, you may want to listen to it first. The final book, Untethered Heart: Redeemed by Love, will be released September 10, 2020.
