Not my cup of coffee

This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com.

Unfortunately, not my cup of coffee. Written in a diary-style and I found it a bit abrupt. Not enough detail to keep my interest.

Not my cup of tea (or coffee).

This is a collection of related 99-word stories. The author writes about the life and times of a couple who live in a small town in Washington with their twin daughters. There is some humor and snippets of everyday life that are appealing.

This might be better in word format rather than audio. The stories left me feeling like I was missing something when I listened to them. The reader had a good clear voice. It’s just in audio format the stories feel too abrupt (I think my attention span is too long for this in audio). I have read 99-word stories before (albeit ones unrelated to each other) and didn’t have as much trouble getting into them as I did trying to listen to this. I went and read the written version of these stories after a while because I wanted to find what it was that I was missing in these. It was much easier for me to digest in written format rather than audio, since each story was more clearly separated and didn’t feel like it was abruptly running into the next one. But because they are all related, it still felt a bit...fulfilling.

If a story in 99-word episodes is your sort of story, I recommend reading the word version instead.

I received this audiobook at no cost from the author/narrator/publisher for my honest review courtesy of audiobookblastdotcom.

Terrastina and Mazoli

This was an upbeat, chirpy book.It was written in 99 word episodes which was annoying.Caroline Miller was fine as narrator. It follows the lifves of the title characters and their family through the years.I was provided a copy for free for review

Life in 99 Word Slices

What did you love best about Terrastina and Mazolli?

I appreciated the structure of the novel and the way that each of the 99 word sections were almost self-contained stories but all contributing to the whole. It was like an abridged version of a diary, only marking interesting things that happened with humorous anecdotes and whatnot.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Terrastina and Mazolli?

That's hard, because the segments were all of similar length each moment only lasts as long as the words that make it up. In an odd way none of them were memorable, but if you take it a step further there were many memorable.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Miller – was your favorite?

I liked the way that she performed the twins, though honestly they were given a lot of the best lines from the perspective of children so it's not the most fair comparison.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but only having to split it into two sittings was just fine and that's just because it was so easy to listen to. I could have listened to it in dozens of sittings and as long as I stopped at the end of a 99 word section I'd be just fine.

Any additional comments?

I received this book through my email with the onus on me to create an honest review when I finished with it, which was awesome, because the book was awesome. If anyone questions my rating against the other two reviews on here I'd have to point towards listening style. As someone who appreciates microfiction and short fiction I went into it with that perspective listening to them like quick slices of life with some sort of action and some sort of closing, therefore I never got any extra exposition or detail but I never really expected it. If you think you can listen to something without looking for regular narrative structure I'd definitely recommend it, but otherwise you won't get as much enjoyment out of it as I did.
