Resumen del Editor

Christian parenting. It can sure be a challenge! I recall reading a “Peanuts” comic strip, in which there was a conversation between Lucy and Charlie Brown. Lucy said that life is like a deck chair: Some people place it so they can see where they are going; some place it so they can see where they have been; and some place it so they can see where they are at present. Charlie Brown replied: “I can’t even get mine unfolded.” That’s the way many Christian parents feel in their attempt to raise Christian children in a non-Christian world. No doubt about it. Christian parenting can be a challenge! This book, designed specifically for Christian parents, is all about what your child needs to know about Christian beliefs and values. It is designed to help you engage in Christian education for children. Teaching our kids well is one of the most serious responsibilities we have as parents. We cannot afford to fail here because we live a world that is not sympathetic to Christianity or to Christian values. The truth is, we are surrounded by foreign, hostile, and home-shattering influences. The Christian home must blossom in a field of weeds. Put another way, we have to learn to navigate in the midst of a storm. This is not the ideal. It’s much better to learn to navigate in calm seas. But that’s no longer an option for us. Our society is an ever-worsening sea of turbulence. And learn to navigate we must! Otherwise, our children (along with us) sink! This book has been designed to help you sail these turbulent seas. My prayer as you peruse its pages is that you will discover and rediscover lasting principles from Scripture that will enable you to effectively equip your kids for what lies ahead of them. I’ve made a concerted effort to provide lots of good Christian parenting advice, with lots of good ideas for Bible lessons for kids. You will notice that part of each chapter is written specifically for you (the parent), and part of it is written with a view to helping you communicate the main points to your children. In my experience I have found that not every parent feels they are well-versed enough to be able to explain everything fully to their children. So, with this in mind, I have tried to provide everything you need to know. There are lots of Christian parenting tips. I try to make Christian education easy. Moreover, if you are involved in Christian homeschooling, you will find this book to be a big help! On most pages in this book, you will find “Pass It On” Principles. The phrase “Pass It On” is chosen purposefully. In Scripture, living the Christian life is often compared to running a relay race (Acts 20:24; Galatians 5:7; 2 Timothy 4:7). After the first runner runs a lap, he passes a baton to the second runner, who then continues on in the race. In this book, I compare the teaching and training of our children to passing a baton to them in a relay race. Passing the baton represents passing onto them the scriptural principles and values from the Bible they need in order to live a successful Christian life. Meditate upon these principles. Commit them to memory. Make them a part of your fabric. You will also find on most pages one or more “Shortcut to Understanding” boxes. These boxes contain stories, word pictures, and illustrations to help you communicate a particular principle or value to your children. Never forget that kids tend to think visually, so these word pictures will help you a great deal. You will soon become equipped to creatively illustrate Bible stories for children! Through it all, my prayer is that you, like me, will learn the truth of Psalm 127:1: “Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain.” So, as you continue to trust in the Lord as a mother or father, my prayer is that this book would enable you to truly become skilled at Christian parenting.
