It describes the simpler life of a young boy who immigrated to the United States and his appreciation of the opportunities that it gave him growing up and into adulthood. His experiences are heartbreaking and humiliating at times but also hopeful and amazing. As a young boy born into a family without a father, he left poverty and shame and created an accomplished and admirable life.
