Lestrade heard a shout of warning as he rounded the corner and ducked just in time to avoid getting hit in the face. His would-be assailant swore as Lestrade turned back toward him. Sweat dripping, face contorted into a scowl, he turned as if to escape back the way they had just come only for Smith to catch up, blocking his exit.

Apparently deciding he had a better chance against Lestrade, the man turned back to face the younger inspector.

"Don't do it," the constable warned. "You're outnumbered and surrounded."

Smith simply waited.

London. 1867. Four months after solving a series of child abductions and making a name for himself at Scotland Yard, Inspector Lestrade finds himself tackling another difficult case, one involving the murder of an unwed mother of two on London's East End. Determined to bring the killer to justice, Lestrade finds himself in some of the worst parts of the city, where danger lurks around every corner and the smallest mistake could cost him everything.

The vocal reading sounds like it was done by a southerner from the civil war era, and then when he does a “character“ voice, they all sound like the parts were read while he was on the toilet during various periods of constipation.

Good story

This book is a story of a newly promoted Inspector Lestrade. He is assigned to investigate the murder of a woman in the dangerous area of London’s East End. Lestrade is investigating, while trying to find someone to care for the victims 2 young children. A very interesting story, but the narration was distracting. The narrator’s performance varied the accents of the characters and they often sounded US-southern.

No Holmes, All Lestrade

While this story did not include any Holmes, it was still interesting seeing the person of Lestrade fleshed out. The murder mystery was a little slow, but still overall was worth the read. The performance was also good.
