For book number 2, it is Aloha, Aloha, Aloha! because we are traveling over the Pacific to spend Christmas in Hawaii! Specifically, we are headed to Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, on the island of Oahu . For this exotic Christmas experience, I took my lifetime friend Debbie (also a widow through divorce but has found new love). Debbie is also one of the editors of my romance novels. She was brave enough to come with me to Hawaii and we had an amazing time.
This book is also a teaser for future second chance romance novels.
As those of you know from reading the first book in my series, I started Widow’s Guide to Travel after losing my husband of nearly 34 years to cancer. I could not face the first Christmas at home without him, so I decided to leave the boxed ornaments of Christmases past stored away and instead headed for a month-long sojourn to Carmel-By-The-Sea. What I came to quickly understand besides that travel was a wonderful tool to combat grief, was that solo traveling as a widow (a woman of my age) was a very singular journey and came with a unique set of challenges and yes, amazing experiences.
I learned a lot of lessons about traveling solo and decided to turn my experiences into a help guide for women of any age to navigate travel alone, understand the pitfalls and to offer practical tips to make the experience memorable, safe and fun. The travel series is also a guide to using travel to combat grief. This book is published to be available on the three- anniversary of the loss of my husband.
Hawaii Christmas marked my second Christmas without my husband and a different Christmas experience was needed. The second year, I did not leave our family tree and ornaments boxed up and stored, instead, they came up from the basement and I opened the memories again. I was going to Hawaii and somehow that helped me face the lost Christmases contained in those stored decorations and the 30-year boxed tree.
So off we go to Waikiki Beach, a Widow's Paradise!
