WANT TO GO TO A CHIROPRACTOR OR BECOME ONE? READ THIS FIRST FOR SOME SOBERING TRUTH. THE DEATH OF CHIROPRACTIC BY PAUL TEICH DC, CSP, FIAMA, RM FORWARD T his is a very short book within which is a treasure trove of safeguards or warnings. There are vocational guidance safeguards. There are safeguards to think about if you want to become a chiropractor. Do you think that’s a good idea? There are safeguards about what you might find in a doctor’s office, like a chiropractic or physical therapy, or medical office. Who does your therapy and answers your questions in the office? Is that important? There is one type of doctor who can bill insurance that can’t be hired in a hospital. If I was your guidance councilor I’d steer you clear of that one for sure. A major source of revenue for insurance companies today is taking money back from doctors. This is happening to all types of doctors and we are talking amounts like $20,000, $200,000 and $2,000,000. Not all doctors in private practice can weather that storm. Now that physical therapists are graduated as doctors of physical therapy and do take a course in joint mobilization, manipulation what effect will this have on the chiropractic profession? I wrote this like 10 years ago, I think around 2005. Now it is 2015 and I am getting $40 per hour to work a 5-9 shift as a chiropractor. I was also offered $50,000 per year for over 80 hours a week. That is 2 jobs and with travel that would be 100 hours a week. It was really 2, $25,000 a year jobs. Beware and don’t let this next story happen to you. I got hired as a rehabilitation specialist and as the director was bringing down a patient to be introduced to me she saw me vacuuming and as the director introduced me, the patient said, “who the maid”? The patient was adamant about the fact that if I was any kind of doctor then I wouldn’t be doing floors and she refused to see me. I have had 17 different jobs and I’ll tell you after becoming a doctor I resent anyone, boss or whatever that has turned me into their bitch and included maid service if there is a lull in the doctoring. You might feel the same, I don’t know perhaps. If I was going to run an office it would be for cash only no insurance accept for car accidents. I have learned from professional business consultants that with professionalism and a good web site that is professionally maximized, about $15,000 the first year and $300 a month there after as part of the advertising budget you can at least be put into the competition. Without that forget it. Well without further adieu, THE DEATH OF CHIROPRACTIC
