Survival Rate is the timely story of a coronavirus pandemic that explores the conflicting objectives and values of the scattered survivors. The main storyline follows a father searching for his college-age daughter during the onset of the disease and the collapse of civilization. It weaves sometimes uncomfortable questions of purpose and sacrifice into the story. Mainstream readers will be drawn to the intense action scenes, and the heroic resolve and diversity of the characters, each of whom attempt in their own way to cope with a failing civilization. The author describes scenes from Nepal to the Badlands of North Dakota. Unique from other recent novels of this genre, the story invokes optimism for the future, similar to a modern cross between George Stewart’s 1946 classic Earth Abides and Pat Frank’s Alas, Babylon.
