If you are looking for a book where a writer provides a general discussion of leadership skills or where an educator presents an academic view of the characteristics and qualities of individuals recognized as exemplary leaders, and you chose this book, you will be sorely disappointed.

In Successfully Leading Project and Technical Teams, Doug Russell confirms the fact that he is a truly gifted author, and skillfully exhibits that he has genuinely been there and done that when it comes to successfully leading project and technical teams. His background and experience to write this book is exceptional.

Doug earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Duke University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Clemson University. He has over 30-years of Technical, Project Management and Leadership experience with major U.S. Corporations, such as Intel and Motorola, and has held major Project Leadership responsibilities with the United States Department of Defense.

This is Doug’s third published book, and this one, without question, exceeds all expectations.

“Successfully Leading Project and Technical Teams: Workplace Intelligence For All Team Members” is a ground breaking literary accomplishment, and all readers --- young, old, Tech and Non-Tech --- will find this cleverly written and fun book to be a delightful combination of sincerity, insightfulness, and ingenuity.

In this book, his craftiness to capture, share, and analyze the essence of what developmental experts now call Workplace Intelligence, as it relates to today’s Tech workplace and development environments, is mystifying.

By Workplace Intelligence, Doug explains, “I am referring to the comprehensive framework of cognitive, emotional, social, cultural, and political insights essential for navigating complex professional environments, as well as for thriving in modern work settings filled with challenging personalities, surprising motives, and leaders of many different flavors.”

In this regard, within Successfully Leading Project and Technical Teams, Doug has packed a huge amount of workplace intelligence and more into what is also a fun, enjoyable and meaningful read.

To be honest, this book was not what I expected. It is not your typical book on leadership. To me, it is the most readable and effective book on what’s really happening in the Project and Tech workplace and how aspiring leaders can be successful by becoming more knowledgeable of the unique realities of this type of environment. With over 80 lessons and the plain and candid language, I actually looked forward to reading the next anecdote. I was disappointed when there were no more to read. I definitely recommend this book for gaining real, executable advice.
