Su Li and the Secret Bible

When Su Li found the Secret Bible she couldn’t have foreseen how fast the People’s Republic of China would collapse. No onedid. Not even the American CIA. In the late Twentieth Century the USSR had collapsed. Now, at the beginning of the Twenty-first Century, the People’s Republic of China was ready to collapse as well. It would take only a tiny nudge for the PRC and the Chinese Communist Party to cease to exist. The Chinese People had lived under the CCP oppression for nearly eighty years. Every year the Communists promised that their lives would be easier in the future, but that future never happened. Millions of Chinese citizens were dying every year from starvation. The promises of the CCP never came true. The collapse started when the CCP ordered that all privately grown food was to be confiscated by the People’s Liberation Army, for distribution to North Korea. The Chinese people were forced to resist. But they were unarmed peasants trying to fight a powerful military. But this time the CCP had gone too far. The PLA refused orders to shoot those who were resisting their orders in locations all across China. Once resistance started, it spread from province to province until all of the provinces were in open rebellion against the PLA, PRC, and CCP. Within a week, all of the provinces had declared independence and the PRC and the CCP had completely lost control.

America was watching closely, and they encouraged factories that had fled China during the past year to reconsider reopening their factories in the provinces. America knew that if the provinces were to have a chance to remain independent, they needed functioning economies, they needed people back at work with good paying jobs. One by one, the factories returned to the provinces. America next put pressure on the provincial governors to grant freedom of religion to their citizens. With America backing the reopening of factories, the governors weren’t about to argue over freedom of religion. In the days leading up to independence, Su Li had been forced to aid the four elderly Christians she lived with to defend their home from the provincial police trying to get in on the looting. She had done well.
