Near the midpoint of the Upper Peninsula, along a Lake Michigan bend of shore, is the town of Manistique, Michigan. Mark had never heard of Manistique before the death of his estranged aunt, but as sole beneficiary of Vivian's estate, he travels there to settle her affairs. As Mark tours his aunt's house for the first time, the doorbell rings.
Days after graduating medical school, Dr. Emily Davis drives north, struggling with her illicit rendezvous on Mackinac Island. She never makes it - on the highway near Manistique, her car collides with a deer, shattering the car's windshield. Stranded for the night, Emily is directed to a nearby bed-and-breakfast.
Maybe it's a heady reaction, the revelation that his aunt, an international aid doctor, ran a bed-and-breakfast in retirement. Or perhaps he plainly feels pity for the young, helpless doctor. Regardless, Mark decides to play host for one night, telling Emily that he's merely stepping in temporarily while his aunt is away.
As a one-night stay turns into another and more guests arrive, the ersatz innkeeper steadily loses control of his story. And though Emily opens up to Mark, she has trouble explaining the middle-aged man who unexpectedly arrives at the doorstep looking for her.
Will these two strangers, holding on to unraveling secrets, remain in town long enough to discover the connection between them?

I knew all of the towns in that book. I am originally from that part of the country.
The story was interesting but sometimes predictable. Overall a nice feel good story without any senseless violence.

Who’s at the door?
Loved this book. I was in upper Michigan last year and enjoyed reading about the area. I loved all the characters. Each one brings a surprise. I didn’t want it to end! Maybe another book...please!

Accurate
4 years ago I also found myself Stuck in Manistique and I enjoyed this book knowing my new tiny town and recognizing information they gave on local businesses. It was a good story as well.

Something worth reading if your from Northern Mich
A friend recommended this book and after listening, I could understand why. If your from Northern Michigan, are a physician, or adopted, this book will strike a chord with you (I match two of the three, my friend the other one). My guess is the Mr. Cuesta has been through the area, but that he hasn't lived there.
The story is good, but I would have liked more closure to the loose ends. This is the story of a bunch of strangers, thrown together in Manistique one Memorial Weekend. I would have just liked to see how all their relationships worked out. I could be they just didn't go anywhere, but more closure would have been nice.

I’m a Michigan girl who LOVES Yooper stories. Being Stuck in Manistique could be a great time or a Nightmare and Dennis Cuesta captures both with spot on accuracy. He is either from Upper Michigan or did very thorough research. His description of the Manistique inhabitants was spot on and made me laugh out loud, you know, eh. I couldn’t quit listening until 5:00 a.m. The narrator, Jeremy Arthur was fantastic as well and could pass as a Yooper native. Highly recommend this audio book.

Delightful story
This a delightful story! The reviews I read were from people who live, or lived, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan - & I will admit I was in the UP sightseeing when I got & listened to this novel - BUT this is a lovely small town story - stand alone from being in the area!
I don’t write reviews even tho I have listened to hundreds of audio books - but felt this one needed another review - because I really enjoyed it!
You really like all the characters, & hope for a great outcome!

quirky with local flavor
I have been through Manistique several times and this book makes me think about stopping the next time. Twists are fun when uncovered while I was able to guess some of them as the story was building.

Want more based on the characters!
