Strange Liverpool is Tom Slemen's fascinating book documenting the bizarre-but-true stories about his hometown that are not found in most local history books. Hear about:

  • Adolf Hitler's alleged spying mission in Liverpool...
  • The mysterious occultist named Bezzera who told a young Beatle he would be the most famous man in the world…
  • The gigantic UFO - witnessed by thousands of people - that passed over Liverpool during its dramatic fiery descent into North Wales and the ensuing Government coverup…
  • Mighty Mary Richardson, whose strange power allowed her win a tug-o-war match with a Liverpool rugby team…even shire horses could not make her budge an inch…what was her secret?
  • The incredibly charmed life of Scotland Road's Mick Riley - which inspired the phrase, "the life of Riley"…
  • The Secret Mersey Tunnel, which runs from Speke to Bebington…
  • The Summer of the Leprechaun - when hundreds of people in Liverpool saw Little People in the parks and gardens of the city…
  • The bizarre but creepy tale of the so-called Greek Vampire who terrorised Victorian Liverpool…

Plus many more astonishing stories of Liverpool which prove the old saying that "truth is stranger than fiction".

This short book was a collection of strange and unusual tales from Liverpool. This is not to be confused with the excellent Haunted Liverpool series the author writes, which has a decidedly more paranormal focus. This book contains stories the author has found in his extensive research for the most part are not of the paranormal variety. A few are contained in other books, but the stories here are all fascinating reads. Tom Slemen's meticulous research and gifted storytelling skills are once again on display. I listened to the audiobook while reading. While the narration was crisp and clear, the narrator was American. These books have a British time and should be read by a narrator of the same. Most enjoyable book and audiobook.
