Stay Quiet, Look Pretty

For years, I’ve been "Daddy’s Little Princess". Smiling for the cameras, spouting the same three lines about how proud I am to be the Governor’s daughter every time a microphone gets put in my face. I thought I was already doing my part to make sure he stayed a big fish in our little pond, but now that Dad has his sights set on higher office, he’s practically trapped me in a fish bowl.

Living under his controlling gaze, I can’t help searching for loopholes; sneaking out and finding little pockets of the world where I can just be me. I do my best to keep my head down and fall in line, but sometimes, all I can think about is wanting to be free.

People-watching from the back of my favorite café isn't the same thing as living, and when a handsome guitarist shows me what I've been missing out on, I don't want to keep playing second-fiddle in my own life.
