CARL SCHURZ
Acerca de esta escucha
"Carl Schurz' "States' Rights and Byron Paine" was an address he delivered at Albany Hall, Milwaukee, March 23, 1859. In it, he defended his position, which no doubt was also the position of the bulk of the anti-slavery men of the time, of states rights and the compact theory of the union.

A fantastic speech against slavery from a states’ rights perspective
This speech was delivered in 1859 by the first German born American to become a US Senator. It was given in Milwaukee shortly after the rescue of the escaped slave Joshua Glover, (Google it). In this speech Schulz outlines the compact theory of the union and the Constitution as a document that grants limited powers to the federal government. He maintains that the states have the right to defend their citizens against federal overreach. I recommend that anyone who cares about the Constitution and individual liberty listen to this audio book, as well as read the speech, which is available online free.
