Resumen del Editor

The embattled Republic reels from the attacks of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who has marshaled the remnants of the Imperial forces and driven the Rebels back with an abominable technology recovered from the Emperor's secret fortress: clone soldiers.

As Thrawn mounts his final siege, Han and Chewbacca struggle to form a coalition of smugglers for a last-ditch attack against the empire. Leia holds the Alliance together and prepares for the birth of her Jedi twins.

Overwhelmed by the ships and clones at Thrawn's command, the New Republic has one last hope: sending a small force, led by Luke Skywalker, into the stronghold that houses Thrawn's terrible cloning machines. There a final danger awaits, as the Dark Jedi C'baoth directs the battle against the Rebels and builds his strength to finish what he has already started: the destruction of Luke Skywalker.

Thrilling conclusion to the best Star Wars trilogy

'Heir to the Empire' (the first book in this trilogy) was the first adult fiction novel I ever read, I was 6 years old. And I was hooked. All three books - 'Heir to the Empire', 'Dark Force Rising' and 'The Last Command' - remain my favorite Star Wars books out of a collection of over 300 Star Wars novels. Zahn's trilogy also spurred the rebirth of the Star Wars franchise, unleashing a tidal wave of tie-in novels and the now extensive 'Expanded Universe'.

The characters are original and dimensional, yet fit with the feel of the original trilogy films. Mara Jade is easily one of my favorite female characters in fiction, and the fact that she holds her own against Zahn's other brilliant creation - the calculating, tactical genius - Grand Admiral Thrawn only adds to this trilogy's appeal. Anthony Daniels' reading, while perhaps a bit dated, holds a special place in my heart as well. I fondly remember listening to this in the car on many summer vacations. Each character is voiced differently and with great feeling. Download 'The Last Command' today and enjoy the thrilling conclusion to - in my opinion - the best Star Wars trilogy in print.

Really took me back.

On Christmas as a kid, my dad got me a cassette tape off this. I played it every night until one of the cassettes broke. After a while, the other cassette broke. for years I have been dying to find the exact audiobook read by the voice actor of C-3PO. only place I could find it was here. it's still as beautiful as the day I lost it.

Anthony Daniels KILLS it again

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As with book 2, I enjoy Timothy Zahn's writing and I feel he very much captures the flavor of the Star Wars universe. Anthony Daniels narration was in my opinion nothing short of terrible. The strange inflections and tones attributed to characters was laughable and painful in spots (the way he portrays Joruus C'Baoth was horrendous). Also to add his pronunciations (such as CHIMERA being pronounced Ki-MOO-rah) really took away from the book. It was rather painful to get through, but I wanted to finish out the trilogy.

Also as with book 2 the abridgement was a bit choppy, but in this book it really felt like there were huge gaps left in the story that made it seem inplausible.

Would you ever listen to anything by Timothy Zahn again?

Yes

Would you be willing to try another one of Anthony Daniels’s performances?

Absolutely not.

great book but i prefer the full one

better get the full one, even if it's anthony daniels, the performance on the full version is better and the story is worth as written, not a brief version like this one

Narration is terrible.

I made the mistake of buying this audiobook narrated by Anthony Daniels and couldn't even bear listening to two chapters. Do yourself a favor and buy the audiobook narrated by Marc Thompson.

Good story, but too short.

The title says it all. It was a good story, but too damn short.

Great story, bad narration.

Just a poor narration of a great story by Timothy Zahn. Anthony Daniels uses poor inflection at times, mispronounces many names of characters and places, and used some annoying voices for some of the main characters. I'm definitely going to steer clear of future audiobooks narrated by Anthony Daniels.

Abridged is better

I don't know why people complain about the abridged versions... There's less repetitively boring detail, and it flows better, almost like you are watching a Star Wars movie.

Love the book, dislike the abridged part

This trilogy by Zahn is what brought Star Wars back into our collective conscience. Why then are his audio books abridged? I love the story, and I love being able to listen to it on my iPod at the gym, but slightly disappointed in not being able to listen to the entire work as Zahn originally penned it. It's still a good listen, even though it leaves out half the book. It would be awesome though, if there were radio drama style, unabridged, versions of his books.

Abridged version leaves you wondering.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I recommend this book for any Star Wars fan, but the abridged audio version made the story confusing due to omitted parts.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator does well with the voices in the book, however, there are some 'accents' that were hard to follow.

Could you see Star Wars being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Any additional comments?

If available, read the book. If not, the audio is good, just missing more than I would have liked.
