In an alternate future, where the Earth's ice caps have melted, humanity survives on Africa's last remaining dry continent. They receive assistance from humanoids from the planet Orius. Among the survivors is Zaria, a teacher who has always admired Judd Bolivian, a Laiken scientist. However, she never believed that she could do anything more than admire him from a distance.

Unexpectedly, Zaria's brother kidnaps Judd and, against their will, forces them into marriage. To spare Judd any resentment, Zaria is willing to annul the marriage. Sadly, Judd manages to escape, leaving Zaria heartbroken.

Zaria relocates to Orius a year later, and fate reunites her with Judd. Surprisingly, he desires to maintain their marriage. Nevertheless, not all Laikens are pleased with their union. Tragically, Zaria is abducted, prompting Judd to embark on a daring rescue mission that ultimately reveals his true emotions.
