The listener’s relationship with Christ will deepen as Br. Maloney describes how Paul was imbued with the cultures, Jewish and Gentile, of his time and yet transcended both “in Christ.” Br. Maloney compares the insights into human nature and culture that Saint Paul shared in his writings with the insights gleaned from the contemporary world that we live in. Paul would accept all that is good and wholesome in contemporary cultures (Phil 4:8) but reject all that contradicts the life of true love found in Christ. As Br. Maloney describes Paul’s understanding of the human condition as revealed in the Hebrew scriptures and confirmed in Christ, the listener will gain invaluable insights into his or her own spiritual struggles and journey. It is these insights that help guide us on our communal pilgrimage and make a life of self giving possible. The prayers and blessing that Paul extended to his first Century readers reach across time to touch and transform the contemporary believers. Within the context of the salvation of the individual and the world that has taken place in Christ, the listener will recognize the power of the Spirit of God building the Kingdom on Earth, opposing immoral behavior, giving hope for the future, dispelling lies, and giving the believer joy (Gal 5:22).
