G. K. Chesterton
‘He was a man who would have walked to the ends of the world barefoot to find the truth.'
Insightful, beautifully researched and entertainingly told, G.K. Chesterton’s St. Francis of Assisi is a compelling exploration of the life and significance of Saint Francis.
A thorough introduction to Saint Francis’s extraordinary character and spiritual journey, Chesterton’s biography is both a fascinating historical account of the man’s life, as well as a profound meditation on holiness and humility. Chesterton portrays Saint Francis not only as a holy man, but also as a gentle lover of animals, and a radical spiritual revolutionary. He unveils how Saint Francis renounced a life of comfort and wealth to dedicate himself wholly to God, evoking the man’s loving and joyful spirit. Today, St. Francis of Assisi remains one of Chesterton’s most accomplished biographies, as a vivid and reverent portrait of one of Christianity’s most beloved saints.
Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 – 1936) was an English novelist, philosopher, journalist and critic. A Christian apologist, he is famed for creating the fictional priest-detective Father Brown. His writing was also renowned for his sense of humour: known as ‘the prince of paradox’, Chesterton often turned common sayings upside down. Admired by several of his literary contemporaries, Chesterton’s work is still widely read today.
