Acerca de esta escucha
Crohn's disease is an illness people don't often talk about. Its embarrassing symptoms leave those who suffer from it tethered to the bathroom, never knowing when the next flare-up will have their intestines in agony. This cruel condition slowly destroys the quality of life of those it afflicts, leaving them not only in physical pain, but in emotional distress as well. The loneliness and isolation that come with this disease are some of the hardest symptoms to bear.
In this brutally honest account, debut author Russ Dimino shares the details of his struggle with Crohn's. His road to remission spans four gastroenterologists in two states, a myriad of medications, desperate diets, and alternative therapies like acupuncture and hypnosis before finally facing the daunting decision of whether to have irreversible ileostomy surgery. Throughout it all, Russ narrates his ordeal with a sense of humor that keeps things from feeling completely hopeless.
To anyone who has ever battled this disease and felt like you were all alone: This book is for you.

Came for the medical curiosity.. Stayed for the memoir.
Absorbing.. inspiring.. encouraging.. moving.. and even despite the hardships it's humorous at times.
Competently delivered, this memoir shapes up to be such an interesting ride! You will learn about courage, change your perpectives, appreciate life, and find joy. Truly, health is a blessing not appreciated until lost. You will not take your wellbeing for granted after reading this. To the author, I thank you.

I got a free Audible code for this book on Reddit. Prior to listening to this book, I knee nothing about the author, but I wanted to listen to it anyway because I like memoirs. I like hearing stories from other people's lives, both happy & sad. I knew a little bit about Chron's before reading this book, because I tangentially knew someone who had it in the past, and I had heard stories about it. But most of the stories I had heard in the past were Friend of a Friend type stories, so I'm sure they'd played a few games of telephone before making it to me. The author of this book was totally honest about his experience. It felt like he wasn't holding anything back, and he was laying out his entire story for us to heat. The openness was very refreshing, even in parts of the book that were emotionally difficult to hear. Thank you for sharing your story!
