Resumen del Editor

From the New York Times bestselling author of Love & Gelato comes a poignant and “beguiling” (Publishers Weekly, starred review) novel about two teens trying to find their place in the world after being unceremoniously dragged to Salem, Massachusetts, for the summer.

Willow has never felt like she belonged anywhere and is convinced that the only way to find a true home is to travel the world. But her plans to act on her dream are put on hold when her aloof and often absent mother drags Willow to Salem, Massachusetts, to wrap up the affairs of an aunt Willow didn’t even know she had. An aunt who may or may not have been a witch.

There, she meets Mason, a loner who’s always felt out of place and has been in and out of foster homes his entire life. He’s been classified as one of the runaways, constantly searching for ways to make it back to his mom; even if she can’t take care of him, it’s his job to try and take care of her. Isn’t it?

Naturally pulled to one another, Willow and Mason set out across Salem to discover the secret past of Willow’s mother, her aunt, and the ambiguous history of her family. During all of this, the two can’t help but act on their connection. But with the amount of baggage between them—and Willow’s growing conviction her family might be cursed—can they manage to hold onto each other?

LOVED!!!! This is a must read ♥️

I just finished Spells For Lost Things and I loved it so much! I read it in 2 days and it made me cry. The author voice is so strong and I fell hard for the characters. Willow is so fun to follow and I wanted to hug Mason. Can’t wait to see character art for this one!

Great Story, bad Prononciation and Accents

There are a couple characters with French or Boston accents, and they are a little weak. Many words are also mispronounced, namely Bea, and coven, and the name Thalia which did drag me out of the immersion. Otherwise it is a very sweet book, I like it a lot.

For Halloween Lovers

3.5 stars
only Jenna welch knows how to make me enjoy things I don't usually enjoy, case on point this book has Halloween-ish vibe and if you know me it's my least favorite holiday in the year, yet I enjoyed the Halloween atmosphere and really wanted to visit Salem in this time of the year
The story is about Willow, she has a case of not wanting to settle down since her parents divorce, all she wants is to travel everywhere, specially that her mom is emotionally distant and her dad is already remarried and has a family of his own, then she get the news that her aunt ( her mom's twin ), an aunt she didn't know existed has actually died and left a house in Salem for her mom, and hopefully to break the curse that was on their family since the beginning of Salem, then we will meet Mason, he is a foster child with an addict mother, and he tries his best to find his mother, and now he is placed with a family in Salem, the two meet in a chance encounter in Willow's aunt house and together they will embark on a little adventure to find the source of the curse and maybe love ..
as I said the overall vibe of the book was on point, but the romance really left me wanting more, I think if the book was from one point of view (preferably Willow's) it would've been a much experience for me because everything was brushed over and Mason's story didn't deserve this much because nothing was happening with him, I'm really glad I read this book but I think Jenna should stick with one POV it will be much better in my opinion :)

A bit wordy

“You handle the Earth, and I’ll handle the sky.”
The young adult novel Spells for Lost Things by Jenna Evans Welch lured me in with promises of Salem, witches, magic. Yet, the enchanting stories of past generations carefully woven throughout held my attention. It’s not as much in your face type of Magic as I expected. But the family curse is reminiscent of the one in Practical Magical. The story features dual POVs, the found family trope. I really liked how at times Mason and Willow had opposite feelings about life. Mason is in the foster system with a mother addicted to drugs, so he desires a permanent home full of love with his mom. He is also a stargazer.
On the other hand, willow can’t wait to be away from her mother. They don’t get along well and are sort of living around one another. So, Willow has developed a sense of wanderlust.
But could Willow and Mason be the key to solving Willow’s family curse?
“all is at is. So mote it be, today, tonight , under the moon, over the sea”

Okay

I love the other books by this author so it’s possible I had high expectations.
This story was fine. It was too long, moved very slow and not very much happened.
The male reader read very slowly. I had to turn the speed up to get through this.
