Resumen del Editor

The stories in this book are based upon actual events.

During the course of her research into some of South Carolina's classic tales, Nancy Roberts heard accounts of happenings in the recent past and even the present day. They're all here: from the famous Gray Man of Pawleys Island who warns of coming storms to the ghost of the poor fellow whose small plane went down in the 1950s near Walhalla, leaving him to forever hitchhike Highway 107. Everybody has heard of Alice of Murrells Inlet, who is still looking for her lover's ring, but who haunts the house in Summerville even now, and why?

The 18 stories told here will have you looking over your shoulder and shuddering at even a gentle breeze - so take care. Supernatural occurrences in South Carolina are not all in the past!

Reseñas de la Crítica

"Susan Larkin is a convincing narrator of these regional stories, set in the 1800s and 1900s. In 'The Ghost Hand,' a family learns that their home is haunted when their daughter sees a man in her room. Larkin draws listeners into the tale when she says in a tremulous voice, 'I felt someone was watching me. Have you ever felt that way?' 'Alice of the Hermitage' is an enchanting story, reminiscent of a fairy tale. Sadness is palpable in Larkin's voice when Alice dies of typhoid and her magnificent ball gown is used for her funeral. After many generations, those who've seen her ghost say she's still beautiful. In 'The Blue Lady of Hilton Head,' Caroline Frick describes the tranquil beauty of the lighthouse where her father worked until a hurricane occurs. She tries and fails to save him. Caroline haunts the lighthouse, and Larkin warns, 'During hurricane season, I wouldn't go near that house.'" ( AudioFile magazine)

Great Stories, Poor Narration

A great collection of ghost stories about old South Carolina. While they are enjoyable, the delivery falls flat. This book is unfortunately ruined by a terrible choice of narrator. The narrator constantly takes awkward pauses in the middle of sentences (kind of like when someone takes too long to turn a page, loses their place, and then needs a moment to get going again), and goes out of her way to over enunciate every word. I'm looking for an enjoyable read, not a speech class. Frankly it wouldn't hurt to have a book about South Carolina read by someone with a southern accent; the few times the narrator attempts one it is painful to listen to.
