Son of Thunder
The title of my story is Son of Thunder, and in this book, I want to share a glimpse into the world of the Lakota people—one of the great Native American tribes of the vast North American plains. I will also tell the story of one of their greatest leaders, a man whose name is still remembered to this day.
The story takes place about 140 years ago, in the late 1870s.
At that time, the Lakota and other Native American tribes still roamed freely across the vast plains of North America. Enormous bison herds thundered across the land, rivers ran clear, and endless stretches of open country remained untouched by settlers. But change was coming. Thousands of white pioneers were making their way westward, seeking a new home in what became known as the "Wild West."
It was the age of cowboys, fearsome painted warriors, and soldiers in their iconic blue uniforms, the kind you’ve seen in countless films. A time of adventure, conflict, and transformation.
At the heart of this story is a ten-year-old girl. Through her eyes, you will witness these extraordinary events as they unfold. So let yourself be transported to a world both distant and yet, in many ways, familiar. Perhaps you’ll find that the struggles of the past are not so different from those of today.
A novel for young readers aged ten and up—but not just for them!
