Good story but overexaggerated narration

I only even heard of this book because my mom let me know the author is married to a distant cousin. I enjoyed the story and loved how all the little threads eventually tied together by the end. It was a good wholesome story but still had good suspense. Looking forward to the second book being available on Audible.

The narrator did okay, but it just seemed overexaggerated. I wish the characters talked like people actually talk. I felt like I was in kindergarten being read to by my teacher. I tried speeding it up, but that made it sound robotic which was even worse.
