Vivienne Marsh, removed from her contemporary life in New York, finds herself deep in the heart of Louisiana, living in an old plantation house, aiding her dying father. The more time she spends in the house, the more familiar it all becomes to her. The land and the artifacts slowly connect her with a slave woman born centuries before her.
Two completely different bodies living in entirely different times find a common purpose to one soul.
In the ripples of the muddy plantation waters, Vivienne perceives a reflection of oppression that had changed form over the centuries but had never stopped haunting her. She knows she must quiet the voice in her soul that constantly confirms that she was never enough. Yet, before she can defeat the demon that she can't see. Vivienne must answer one question: Did she live there before and is the spirit within her the very ghost she fears?
